"She's waking up."
Catherine opened her eyes to see three ragged women hovering over her.
"Take some water," one of them said.
Catherine shoved the cup aside, afraid she'd be sick. The floor rocked. The air smelled of the sea. She clambered to her feet, staggering, and fought the panic threatening to overwhelm her.
He'd put her aboard a ship.

Unlike the other women aboard ship, Catherine de Villeroy had assumed Fate intended her to live an aristocratic life of ease and luxury. Instead she is transported to a fetid jungle to be tied to a secretive stranger who reeks of pigs.
Catherine's shipmate Marie Claude has had few expectations in life, and even they have been disappointed. When her only options become prostitution or starvation, Fate decrees she will become the wife of a stranger in a strange land. Even if her new husband is a cruel man, how can life not be better in this rough paradise of alligators and wild orchids?
Agnes expected a life spent in her father's bookstore, perhaps married to a gentle, scholarly man. Betrayed and ruined, Agnes retreats into herself and hardly notices when she is transported to Louisiana. Married to a stranger who desires only an amenable bed partner, Agnes strives to stay present in her new life and to explore what more Fate allows a ruined woman.

Here Will I Remain Book 1 of the New Hope Series edition by Gretchen Craig Literature Fiction eBooks

This is the first book I have read by this author, but I very much doubt it will be the last.

Well-written and edited, it is a pleasure to read without typos and modern idioms to jerk you from the story. And what a story it is. This is an ambitious series to write but the author has done her research well and if this book is any indication, the series will be an extremely good one.

I read a sample before I paid for the book (my usual practice), and from the first sentence I was engrossed. As soon as I'd finished the sample, I bought the book and stayed engrossed in the lives of the colonists until I turned the last page. I became absorbed in the women as they spent two months on a wooden sailing ship taking them from their French homeland to the French colony of Louisana in the Americas. This book concentrates mainly on three women; Catherine, Agnes, Marie Claude, as they find themselves auctioned off to settlers upon their arrival, chance alone deciding what kind of man has bought them. The contrast between what was and what is now, is stark, especially for aristocratic Catherine. The colony was barely developed and the settlers had an enormous task to try and clear land for farming, mainly dependent upon food they could grow, such as vegetables, and food they could catch/snare such as fish, rabbit and other game. For many things they were dependent upon supplies arriving from France and sold in the small settlement near the Fort.

I became invested in their lives as their stories unfolded and their characters developed. I really cared what happened to these women and I will be buying the next book when it is released.

There is some sexual content, but not much and not too explicit; on the borderline of my comfort zone.

Here Will I Remain Book 1 of the New Hope Series edition by Gretchen Craig Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I loved Here Will I Remain. It started out to be quite bleak but as the story developed with each character I found it quite enjoyable. I especially loved Catherine. When I went back and re-read the book, I only read the portions about Catherine and her ugly blue dress that she wore for seven months and her new husband. While focusing only one of the characters at a time, I felt I got their complete story.
Rest R restCan't wait to read the rest
It is a good escape novel. The characters are well defined. It is amazing how the three main women's lives developed so differently. I was fascinated by the information on the growing and harvesting of indigo. Enough so that I then went and researched it. The story is quite believable. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I like books about the Civil War Era so I enjoyed this book. I would have bought Book 2 of the New Hope series but I very seldom spend this much for e-books.
As always I love G. Craigs' books,,,,,,I think I have read most all of them......I love her characters, and often hate to see the book end....As always I learn something......Great writing.......I started with the Plantation Series.........
Here Will I Remain is very well written and researched. I loved the characters, especially the women. It was so fascinating to learn about the French settlements of Louisiana in the early 1700's. Having recently visited the old rice and indigo plantations in Charleston, reading about the process of making indigo dye in the book was quite interesting to me. Look forward to the rest of this series!
Started off ok but then became predictable and slightly far fetched. A group of women leave France to become wives to go to Louisiana to start a new life.
Main character Catherine is abducted from her aristocratic home and thrown aboard a ship only to go to a life of poverty, lonleyness and hardship and had to marry a pig farmer who ignored her. She doesn't seem to be bothered, seemed to adapt right from the beginning to her new life and didn't miss her old one??? .. which I found ridiculous and unbelievable. Wasn't too worried about her family or being swindled out of her inheritance.
The story line was predictable, nothing new. I found in hard to even be interested in the people portrayed in the story as they didn't seem real to me
All in all I thought it sounded good when I brought it, till I got bored with it ...... About half quater way through! Didn't read the ending as I really didn't care.
