Hollywood Homicide A Detective by Day Mystery Kellye Garrett Books

Talk about your reading you can't put down. I started it this morning, and finished it in less one day.
Let's get to the scoop.
The characters were all well developed. Except for Aubrey. I wish I knew more about him. But with the ending, he's not going anywhere, so stay tuned for more. I can't decide if I like Dayna or Sienna better. Dayna is the main character, and a bit of a power player, with just enough uncertainty to make her real. But Sienna... what a fun character. Her personality is the one friend you have in your life that makes things way too wacky. Come on, we all have one of those, right?
The descriptions were out in full force. They made me feel like I was in LA. Not the LA we all read about, the living in the real world LA.
The red herrings and clues were planted everywhere. I was wishing I could see the author's chart of everything, to see how she made all the twists and turns in the story. Keep in mind, there wasn't a single clue or red herring not needed. They all fit, and kept me guessing! I had no clue who was the killer until the reveal, because of all the planted clues and red herrings and Dayna's guessing game. Nice job!
Dialogue was funny as all get out! I caught myself laughing out loud.
It moved extremely fast. Like action packed fast! Like I couldn't keep up with it fast! Could be a good thing or bad thing. I leave it up to you to decide.

Hollywood Homicide A Detective by Day Mystery Kellye Garrett Books Reviews

So. Much. Fun. Dayna Anderson is witty, snarky, and just plain fun. Day and her friends have the (mis)fortune of witnessing the aftermath of a hit-and-run accident that leaves a young woman dead. By chance, they have a picture of the suspect's vehicle. But tracking down the vehicle and its owner isn't easy. A "retired" actress, Day searches for the killer with the help of her closest friends and a out-of-work police officer, who has a habit of wearing reflective orange (not the most fashionable statement). I enjoyed this book so much I hated to finish it. On the bright side, the next book, Hollywood Ending, is coming out. Woo-hoo! If you are a fan of Stephanie Plum, you will love Dayna Anderson!
Finished reading in 3 busy days! I was upset when I kept having to put it down, for things like work. I found myself chuckling out loud! I was rooting for Dayna, the main character, all the way through. She didn't do stupid stuff that normally get real life people killed and I couldn't figure out who was the culprit! Great read! Looking forward to the next. It's a "crime" I have to wait until next year! I guess I'll just have to control my peanut butter till then!
Dayna is a "retired" actress. Hard up for money, she decides to hunt for a killer for the reward. I loved Dayna. She felt real. Her clothes were too tight because she'd gained weight. She messed up in many ways, and her snark came out at the wrong times. The book was fast-paced and funny, with great characters.

I will be following Kellye on /Facebook so I can keep up with when her next book comes out.
Kellye Garrett writes with great pace and humor.

Dayna Anderson has a lot of energy, and a sudden interest in getting reward money from the police tip line. Mix that in with some good friends and some Hollywood lifestyle and Kellye Garrett had me laughing and rooting and just as sure as her amateur sleuth, until I was just as unsure and on to the next idea.

I want to know Dayna. She and I might never hang at the same places, but I'm sure we would laugh together over follies.
First thing I love about this book—the voice. I was laughing out loud at least once a chapter, usually more. Day’s got the wit of a noir narrator without the cynicism. Garrett’s hysterical, too. All the movie and TV titles had me chuckling so much I had to share them with whoever was near me (and they agreed that the titles were awesome).

Second thing I love about this book is the way you can tell Garrett knows how Hollywood works. Day’s effortless knowledge of the ins and outs of entertainment give you a peek behind the curtain and add a level of authenticity that you can’t fake. There’s a rich world here for the characters to run around in. I’m looking forward to spending more time in it during upcoming installments.

So if you’re looking for a cozy mystery with a great voice, a lot of humor, and a complex setting look no further.
Absolutely the kind of page-turner I'm always looking for.

This was a great mystery, but it felt fresh because the "detective" is really an out of work actress whose greatest credit is a series of chicken commercials, and she's clearly winging it, if you'll excuse the pun. Her clues are such a hodgepodge conglomeration of illegal internet research, guessing, fashion sense...I absolutely loved following her through the spraytanned world of Hollywood and hearing all her hilarious and cynical observations about the acting life.

People have been recommending this book for months and it was really my loss it took me so long to finally listen to them. Once I did, I read it in 2 days, and might have been sneaking pages on my lunch break. I dearly hope the sequel has already been released!
This book is fantastic. It's got a strong, clear voice, and a main character it's easy to identify with. Who hasn't found themselves trying to urge their car along with a prayer as the gas station slowly comes into view?

Day is great, and so is the cast of supporting characters. They're all unique enough to stand out on their own.

The mystery is a lot of fun. Garrett made me suspect almost everyone at one point or another, which for me is the hallmark of a good mystery. No one is safe, anyone could be guilty! But the ending still made perfect sense. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
